benthecube: The Tasmanian LiveJournal Meetup Group

Okay, I created a meetup group for Tasmanian LiveJournal users but I didn't realise what sort of commitment was needed to be the organiser (or rather, I couldn't find the information I needed so I went ahead and created it anyway). So I stepped down as organiser.

The group still exists, so you can join if you want, and if you feel inspired you're welcome to become the organiser.

benthecube: I'm gay and I vote.

Dear Mr Howard and Mr Latham,

I'm gay and I vote.

I usually don't care about the election. It usually means very little to me. But this time around you've both made a point of following George Bush's lead when it comes to gay marriage legislation. Not only that, but at least one of you has slammed The Greens for wanting to legalise it.

This has driven me to want to vote against you. Both of your parties will be at the bottom of my list, and as much as I don't agree with many of The Greens' planned changes I will probably be voting in their favour.

It's time to stop being so blatantly bigoted. This is not a moral issue, this is a basic human right that you are denying me.

Sincerely,
A concerned Australian voter.

theinsider23: URGENT ISSUE

Hey guys

I know that traditionally the fetish scene is sympathetic to the gay and lesbian community and so I think it appropriate to post this here.

The Senate committee into the marriage amendment act is accepting submissions from the public in order to compile a report for the PM on australian attitudes which will then be used as basis for policies.

Submissions are due by Fri 30 July. THIS FRIDAY.

Having contacts inside I can tell you that there have so far been 2000+ submissions AGAINST amending the act to allow same sex couples to marry and less than 20 supporting an amendment. Unless you want this hugely biased report compiled then spread the word and pump out those submissions. Don't let the haters win.

Welcome to the queertas community!

This is a journal for Tasmania's various queer communities, and friends of. No rules yet and I'm hoping to keep it that way. Post and discuss what you like, please be respectful though.

The community needs an icon, can you help?
